According to Google, about 1,000 people each month type in the exact phrase “How to Own a Redbox,” and that’s not even counting the searches coming through the popular search-engine for other terms related to people searching for Redbox ownership opportunities, like Redbox jobs, Redbox Franchiseand information on how to invest in Redbox.
Can I start a Redbox business?
It appears the answer is yes, based on what type of store you own and how busy the place is with foot traffic and customers. The problem is, Redbox is pretty mum on exactly how much foot traffic your store needs to be accepted.
I requested information from Redbox on the application process, and here’s what they told me.
“Thank you for your interest in Redbox,” they said. “While we are not franchising our kiosks at this time, we do accept applications for redbox machines to be installed at your place of business,” Redbox continued.
“Any location suggestions from our redbox customers will also be forwarded to the appropriate parties. If you are a business owner we will need the following information:”
How do you apply to get a Redbox machine? Provide Redbox with the following information…
In order to contact Redbox, you can email them at questions@redbox.com.
Or, for those who prefer to call and speak to a human being, call Redbox at 866-redbox3 (866-733-2693 to get more information — and kindly leave a comment below on your experience, please.
Here is the information that you will need to provide Redbox about your store in order to begin the application process for your own Redbox machine:
Name:
Email:
State:
Zip Code:
Location Type:
Average daily traffic (transactions):
Location Description:
After providing that information, Redbox says that they will contact you should any opportunities become available. Whether that means plenty of Redbox machines are available or not remains to be seen.
And it could take some time for Redbox to get back to you about the application process, seeing as though Redbox is getting a lot more popular ever since Netflix lost 800,000 customers with their price hike snafu.
“Please be advised that it may take weeks for a response as we do receive numerous applications daily,” Redbox wrote.
Where do we send out Redbox DVD machine applications?
That’s what I asked Redbox after they sent me all the above information about name, location, and the like. Redbox responded that it’s easiest to send the application via email, just like they sent me the above information when I asked.
Since that email was sent to me from the questions@redbox.com email address, which contained that short initial Redbox application form, I believe that’s where people who are interested in getting their own Redbox machines can send over the requested info for Redbox to provide more data.
Exactly how much do Redbox store owners make? They aren’t writing about it online…
Some time ago, I thought I’d read that store owners who wanted a Redbox machine in front of their stores had to have at least 15,000 customers per week in foot traffic to get a RedBox at their location.
But that may have been two years or more ago, and Redbox is a lot more popular than back during that period of time.
I also wondered if there were some businesses that Redbox automatically rejects, or certain locations — perhaps like liquor stores in bad neighborhoods or something.
But — no dice. Redbox customer service didn’t have that information readily available.
“I’m sorry but I do not have that information. Once you fill that information out someone will be in contact with you and they can answer those questions for you,” came the reply.
Therefore it sounds like an initial screening process that business owners have to go through to even make it to the next stage of the Redbox application process, whatever that is.
It must vary based on the exact business and amount of customers.
And it’s funny — not many business owners who already have Redbox machines on their properties are writing about it online. Searches for “my Redbox earnings” or “my Redbox machine” or “my store’s Redbox” don’t turn up writings from business owners, only some customers.
Any info on the Redbox machine ownership split? What about Redbox machines in small towns or other locales?
Again, you don’t find much information online about how much Redbox actual splits with the business owners, or what the fee deal is.
Perhaps I should ask my local beauty supply owner to apply for a Redbox machine — he’s got to get LOADS of foot traffic there, as much as us black women like hair weaves! — and then find out the details about whether he got the Redbox or not.
Any other Redbox owners and applicants out there, please comment below with your Redbox application process experience. This is a growing field that is probably only going to grow larger, even though Redbox is upping their rental fee to $1.20.
